About Me!

Hi! My name is Maya Gengozian. I am a stage actor, musician, and writer currently based in New York City.
I am a 19-year-old Armenian-American born and raised in Clovis, CA. I have been studying music and voice since I was 7 years old. When I was 8 years old, I participated in my first musical, and from then on I have been an avid performer throughout California's Central Valley, and now I'm studying in New York City!
I graduated from Floyd B. Buchanan High School in Clovis Unified School District in 2020. At Buchanan, I was a part of BearStage Drama, as well as The UnBearables Improv Team. I graduated with a 3.8 GPA, having taken six AP classes and two Career Technical Educations (CTE) courses - Drama 2 Technical Theatre and ROP Stagecraft. I was also a California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Lifetime member. From April 2018-July 2021, I taught a children's music theory course called Music FunTime at Fresno Music Academy and Arts. Music FunTime is a class for kids ages 18 months-7 years old where students learn the basics of music theory through the use of games, art, and basic rhythm instruments. The goal is to get the students excited about music and prepare them to take private lessons -- whether that be in an instrument or voice.
I am currently studying at New York University - Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development for a BM in Vocal Performance Music Theatre. I am also planning to double major in Journalism at NYU College of Arts and Sciences, Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. My current private voice teacher is Matthew Shepard Smith. I am currently a staff writer for Her Campus NYU, as well as the treasurer for West 4th Stage Company at NYU Steinhardt.
In addition, I enjoy watching movies and television as well as spending time with my friends and family. My favorite tv shows include Grey's Anatomy, Friends, The Bold Type, and Criminal Minds, and my favorite movies include Little Women (2019), La La Land, The Shining, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I am a studier of astrology and lover of coffee, boba tea, crafting, and anything to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I am very passionate about human rights issues, especially when it comes to women's rights and gender equality. I stand with and support my fellow Americans who are oppressed in ways I could never fully understand, and I hope that by doing so and doing whatever I can to fight the racism and oppression in this country, we can make this world a better place for everyone.
